If you’ve ever walked past a mirror and thought, “Why is my hair doing that?”
Hi, welcome. You are my people.
I used to think good hair just happened to some girls. Like they were born knowing how to French braid and wrap a curling wand without giving themselves third-degree burns. Meanwhile, I was out here using a straightener from 2009 and hoping for the best.
But here’s the truth: good hair isn’t just about products or genetics, it’s about habits.
And I had… none.
I washed it too much. I brushed it too hard. I slept with it wet (a crime).
Now, after years of frizz, breakage, and “why is this crunchy?” moments. I’ve found my rhythm.
Here are the 3 hair habits that actually made a difference. No expensive treatments. No 5-hour routines.
Just things that work.

Habit #1 – I treat my hair like it’s vintage silk
There was a time when I thought brushing aggressively = “getting the knots out.”
No. That was just “breaking all my hair off.”
I switched to a wide-tooth comb. I started brushing from the ends up instead of yanking from the root. I now gently pat my hair dry with a t-shirt instead of rubbing it like I’m trying to start a fire.
Also, silk pillowcases? Game changer. Not just a TikTok thing. I wake up with less frizz, fewer tangles, and honestly, I feel like a soft princess even when I look like a troll.
If you’re on a healthy hair journey, start by being nicer to your hair. Imagine it’s your slightly dramatic friend, treat it gently or it will make a scene.
Habit #2 – I stopped washing my hair like it was a crime scene
I used to shampoo like I was scrubbing a greasy pan. Two washes. Burning-hot water. Rinse. Repeat. Every. Single. Day.
Spoiler: This was not great for hair growth. Or anything, really.
Now I wash 2–3 times a week max, with warm (not boiling) water, and I only shampoo the roots. The mid-lengths and ends just chill. The conditioner goes from ear level down. I do a hair mask once a week, nothing fancy, just something hydrating with posh words like “bond-repair” or “moisture-boost.”
My hair feels softer, shinier, and way less angry at me.
Bonus? It stays cleaner longer. Like, day 3 hair is finally giving effortless model-off-duty instead of oily chip fryer.
Habit #3 – I found cute heatless hairstyles that don’t make me look 12
Listen, I love a bouncy blowout as much as the next girl, but my ends do not. After frying them into split strands for years, I decided to give heatless curls a go.
Was I skeptical? Yes. Did I look mildly unhinged, sleeping in robe-curls the first time? Also yes.
But when I woke up, magic.
Now my go-to heatless hairstyles are:
- Robe curls (the viral kind — yes, they work)
- Overnight braids (with mousse = beachy waves in the morning)
- Claw clip updos (effortless and cute, especially on day 3 hair)
I still use heat here and there, but I’m picky. Heat protectant is a must. I set my tools to low-medium, never the “scorch earth” setting I used in high school.
If you’re trying to grow your hair or just keep it looking alive, give it a break from the 200°C chaos once in a while.
So yeah… It’s not magic. It’s just doing less… but better.
My biggest lesson? Your hair will be so much cuter when you stop treating it like an afterthought.
To recap:
- Be gentle (channel your inner Parisian grandmother)
- Wash smarter, not harder
- Heatless curls are your new best friend
Your hair is your crown, babe. And no one likes a crispy tiara.
I hope you steal one of these habits and wake up tomorrow feeling like that girl.
